fishing 6/28/08

Well where are we going to start fishing this week?  Lets go off shore, the week started with bait a plenty and as the week went on we had some cold water show and off went the bait schools. By the weeks end bait was a hard find, few here and a few there and so did the fish scatter. Now lets think a little, where is the warmest water, on the surf edge, lets go look there. Yes, there were bait pods in 17' north of the inlet, you just had to take time to look. How about six Cobia in about 17' to 20', four on crabs and two on greenies all the fish were thirty pound class. All the fish were caught on their way back in, it would have been a great place to start. When you hear about cold water look shallow, that's water warms up the quickest, the fish know it. Now we are on the bait school, fish it, the fish will be there, that is where the food is.  The king fish bite has been a little off this week, we have not seen a lot of anglers with all the rain we have had. The Kings I heard about were small, but that is where the bite started for other species. Sixty to one hundred feet was the zone, small Dolphin, few Sail Fish and more Bonita than bait. The threat of rain and the rain kept most anglers home this week that is the reason for the short catch list, but this is a new week.
Tarpon from the beach has thinned, not sure why but not getting the reports from the 10th floor condo's like usual. Look early, look at high tide and when all else fails try a crab to catch their eye. Good reports of Snook and Jacks, they are a hungry group taking every thing from spoons to a piece of shrimp on a Whiting rig. So do not wander to far away from your equipment, the greater the distance the bigger the jack will be to take you rod home with him. Whiting and Croaker for the rest of the day, good numbers, excellent table fare, bring a bucket of ice to keep your catch fresh.
Trout through out the area have been steady taking top water early and slow moving baits after the sun is up. Snook in the dark hour (season is closed so take the barbs off the) around any of our bridges but the Tarpon could show at any time and it seams when you can see them they are chewing. Plenty of Snapper and Drum to keep most anglers busy, they are drawn to structure so do not cast away from the structure, drop your bait right next to the structure. A few flounder made the catch list this week, not targeted just happened to be there. Small Jacks and plenty of them along with Lady fish all eating live shrimp.
         Till next week..........................................Henry

6/21/08

Lets go catch a fish, one  of the great things about living in our area is our access to the water, from the surf, bridges, causeways and river we can catch a fish. Weeds on the surf, just go to the next access and catch a fish. Tarpon are rolling, Snook are eating and the Jacks will make you crazy. Now if the weeds are at your location go to the next one and the fish will be there I promise.  Every species is there on the glass minnows, small baits, so throw a small bait, match the hatch, it works. The catch list has been long, from big to small, Tarpon, Snook, Jacks and on to Whiting, Pompano, Croakers, the surf edge has been the location for numbers.  Early is best for the big fish and the Whiting and Croaker are there all day, so when you are ready dinner is waiting.
Tarpon in many locations and so is their menu, match the hatch, what is at this location.  North Fork that little D.O.A TerrorEyz, surf the MirrOdine and Indian River changes by the minute but for sure no matter the location a live Crab will get their attention.  Trout bite has been excellent, but fish at low light in the shallow water, your favorite baits are working.  Triple Tails on the channel markers, crab trap floats, just about any thing floating has been holding fish. Drum from  the bridges, as long as the water is moving that is your key. River water quality is excellent and so is the fishing, amazing what happens when we let mother nature run the show.
Off-shore the Sail Fish has slowed but still excellent with catches reported from twenty feet to eighty feet of depth. Plenty of bait, spend a little time on the schools that fish you are looking for may be there.  Kings started at the bait School and went out to sixty feet, the King fish numbers is the place for all of the above. Till next week, do not forget the camera.............................................Henry

FISHING 6/14/08

Lets go catch a fish, lets go for a walk on the beach. We all came down here and started with a look at the surf and said "this is the place" then we all got busy and for got about the beech, well it is the happing place. For  the table you have a choice of Whiting or Croaker, a little piece of shrimp and a number four long shank hook, a short cast and you will find plenty. There is a mix of Blue fish and Spanish mac's feeding on large schools of Glass Minnows traveling the surf edge. Yes, our Blue Fish do make excellent table fare. For the action angler the Tarpon, Snook and Permit are here just waiting to test the warranty on your equipment. These are big fish and you will need plenty of line and maybe a drink of water buy the time you get them in. Favored bait for these action fish is crabs, they all eat crabs, we can list the baits for each but they all eat crabs so why fool around cast a crab out and hang on.  Fishing early is the prime time but they are all there all day and you never know when they decide to eat. Do not forget the ice for the table fare.
Off-shore the seas have been very polite and the small boaters are playing the edge, Tarpon and Permit are the targets. Lots of bait up close so that might be a good starting point.  Sail fish from forty feet of water with the big bite being in eighty feet on live and dead baits. Unusual strong bite of Sails with multiple hooks up happening, doubles even triples have been reported. King fish, small but plentiful in thirty feet of water with Bonita mixed in will make you wish you brought more bait. Dolphin have been a hard find, most that have been reported have been deep, like two hundred feet plus. These fish have been small but that is where the Tuna have made a strong showing. Tuna on small feathers or as we call them Tuna Darts on out to Push Button Hill and it has been a good bite. Cobia are every where so have that pitch rod rigged and ready.
Fishing the rivers it has been Trout, be on location before sun up if you are using top water baits. From the Indian River to the North Fork the Trout are here. Tarpon in the St. Lucie, Hells
gate, Inlet, Cross Roads and north will make you crazy trying figure out what it is they are eating, lot easier on the surf, but you will have to keep throwing what ever at them till one hits and that changes buy the hour. Snook season is closed so they will eat any thing you put in the water, crush the barbs if you are targeting this species for a quick release. Bridges have been reporting Mac's, Drum, lots of Lady Fish and Trout all in the shaded water, the Jacks will keep you busy. Fishing been good for all types of anglers you just have to get your bait wet, till next week release that big one for me.............................................

June 1, 08 fishing

Lets go catch a fish, June and the wind is down, the river is flat and the ocean is just as polite.  The turbity has settled down, it is full summer mode. Off shore the bait has made a strong show form the House of Refuge all the way north to the old Holiday Inn. No excuses.
Snook season closed on the first so they are every where, eating any thing you put in the water. If you are going to target these fish take the barbs off and go to circle hooks, prevents gut hook ups and ensures they will be there for another day. This is their spawn time, lots of big fish, use heavy tackle and muscle these fish to the boat for a quick release, this is tomorrows fish you are catching today.  Good Tarpon bite going, weather you are fishing the North Fork or the Indian River the bite is on. These fish are eating small baits, MirrOdine, TerrorEyz, quarter ounce shrimp and small pins are getting the attention.  When you see these fish rolling, cast in front of them and just let the bait fall you will know when they pick it up. Trout, Jacks, Flounder and Triple Tail all made the catch list this week.  From the bridge it has been
Sheephead, Drum, Mackerel, even a few Pompano have been eating live shrimp. Yes there have been Tarpon and Snook to test the warranty on your equipment. It is summer mode, bridges with shallow, deep and most important shade are the perfect environment, remember the comfort zone.
Surf anglers, Whiting and Croakers for the table with few early morning blue fish on Shrimp and Clam pieces. These fish are up close so just pitch your bait to the trough, if you cast you will be beyond the fish. the Snook and Tarpon are there also, so do not walk to far from your equipment. If that is your target, please step into the surf and release them as quickly as possible, do not crank them up on the sand, it will remove their slim coat leaving them unprotected.
Off shore the Dolphin bite has been scattered form 80' to 125' not big fish but not peanuts either. Nice King bite starting in that 30' zone and Sails starting from 60' out. Live baits, trolled Bally hoo what ever you prefer. The bottom bite to the south seems to be more productive, but 90' out of the Ft. Pierce inlet has been hot. time for the Muttons to show and the Bonita are every where.
Till next week patience at the boat ramp and where is the camera.......................HENRY

Hi my name is Frank,

Went fishing last night Wed 6/5/08 out of Jupiter Inlet to seek some rod pullers in an evening adventure. I went with a good friend from work, Kurt. Got a call at 5pm and out the door within five. Met up my friend and his son after 5:30 at Seagate marina. We went straight east five miles out and saw close to hundred boats. Pulled up next to the commercial guys and saw three boats closest to use with poles bent and touch the water. The boats were chumming hard! We through in our lines to get’m wet. We chummed as well and within minutes we started pulling up our rods and wet lines.

We had a BLAST!

Little Blake the smallest guy with the smallest rod got the biggest of the night, a 25lb king. Kurt and I were very proud of this young wise man that fought this monster and brought him up from the deepest of the big blue.

 Way to go Blake!

A friend/brother of your dad!

 Frank
