FISHING 10/29/11

Yes I know, rain or it looks like rain, weather I guess we will have to fish a round it. Interesting we all have rain gear but one of the great thing about living here is we can wait till the next day. Cooler temp are waking up the fish and bringing more to our shores, so let’s start on the beach. Blue Fish and Jacks have been keeping many busy, want to bend a rod, come on down. Surf have been polite and busy with fish, Mac’s, Croakers, small Pompano, whiting and Snook to mane a few. Casting a chrome lure will get lots of pullers, casting a Jig will find a few more and a Snook. Start early and the Blues, Jacks and Mac’s will not disappoint you. Mid morning through the rest of the day and you will be busy with the Whiting, Croaker, Snook and still a few Blues just to confuse me. If you just want to bend a rod these fish will take your mind off the weather and keep you busy fishing.

Off shore I want you to go the web site and click on the St. Lucie web cam, not scroll down to weather and click on it. This will give all the current updates, go to wave height, and open that page and you to can be angry. This site is from a buoy just out side Ft. Pierce and this will give it as it is happening. Now if you go back to “forecast” you will wonder where are they talking about? Pat Price of Day Maker charters will not be happy that I have shared our secret. From the 130 line on your nav chart to the 30 line on your chart there has been fish, Dolphin to 20lbs, Sails, Kings a Wahoo or two, even Cobia, all this in 130’, how sweet is this. Anglers traveled to the color line, 130’ is where the blue water came in and the fish were hanging out. Changing weather always wakes them up and you could have gone but the “weather man”? Trolled baits, preferred.

In the river the Trout bite and Reds continue, weather you are fishing in Middle Cove or alway south to Boy Scout Island and too many point in between the bite is on. With over cast days the fish have stayed in the shallows, Top water is favored then to soft rubber as the day wears on. Bridges have been the home for Snook, pick a bridge wait for sun down and then bend a rod. Bombers in black and chrome have been favored but that Flair Hawk is a sure thing. Lots of fish all week, not many anglers thanks to the weather man, yes I know it did rain some where in Florida…….till next week, go catch a fish………..FRED

FISHING 10/23/11

So the rain stopped but the wind kept coming, with the cooling temperatures it felt even cold at a few point last week. I know it is time for the cooler temps but I sure like it warm.

Those cooler temps have moved in the Blue Fish, surf anglers report limits on spoons and cut baits.

Plenty of Blues and the bite has been most of the day, prime is dawn but these fish are eating all day. Lots of mullet, so many the fish are driven up on the sand to get away; glad I am not a mullet. Surf has been the spot with a long list of predators biting about any thing you could cast, spoons top the list, chrome and shining was a sure winner any time of the day. If you are going to release your catch try converting your lures to single hooks and squeeze the barb down for a quick, easy release. Yes, the surf was strong but did you try the Bath Tub area????????

North east wind kept the river anglers glued to the east side looking for some flat water with a lot less turbity. Trout and Reds were the target if you could keep your bait from the Blues and Jacks. With all the baits in the water time was not an issue, following the bait sprays was the problem. Best bet is waiting for the next bait school, fish the middle and see if you don’t have your own bait spray. Red have been at the top of the slot, Trout have been there and over and the Jacks are just getting bigger. >From the power plant north or try launching form the Stuart Causeway go around the marina and fish that channel that goes south to Sail Fish Point, lots of fish, lots of rod pullers to keep you busy. Bridges saw a few Pompano but plenty of Blues, Drum, Sheephead, and Snapper and after the sun went down Snook. This week it has been keeper Snook, 30” fish, real nice. Favored baits take your pick, if it swims throw it.

Off shore has been quiet with only the big boats, like the one Capt. V.J. Bell fishes on, able to spend any time out there. For those that did get out, usual Black Fins at 300’ and every body else was in that 130 to 180’ but this week it was south of our inlet, down as far as the Loran Tower. Wind has been tough on us with small boats.

So I will put up with these cold tempratures, 78 degrees but the wind?????? Have a great week….Henry

FISHING 10/12/11

Enough rain, I know the fish are all ready wet so they don’t mind but what about us anglers?

Then about the wind, more wind than I want to talk about, add the rain and it was not pretty. Only anglers that were happy were the Snook anglers, the worst the weather the better the Snook fishing. Snook are a strong fish, they like it when the currents are running and the surface is churning, for them not a problem every other species is victim to the currents. As they get washed about the Snook can take their pick of dinner, how convient. So now you know why all the nutty anglers were on the bridges in all that great Snook weather. Reds have made a strong show, the area from Bear Point south to Blind Creek, sheltered form the winds and no turbidity as one will find on the west side, plenty of mullet with a mix of Trout, Jacks and Blue fish to keep you busy. Most of the Reds have been in the top of the slot (18”/27”) so have your ruler ready, Snook are all shorts but fun to catch. As the turbid settles in the river fishing will pick up, but as I said earlier the fish are all ready wet it will be more comfortable for the anglers. Snook, pick a bridge, let the sun go down and get your favored bait in the water, then hang on, most will be above the slot (28”/34”), have you ruler ready.

Surf has been churned up, strong currents mixing plenty of sand, as this settles out have your Spoons ready. With all the mullet on the beach it will be Blue’s, Jacks, Snook and few Tarpon to test your equipment.

Favored time would be sun up but if you can’t make that get a tide chart, two hours before high tide and the first two hours of the falling will find plenty of fish. Good size Croakers and Whiting will keep you busy the rest of the time, small Pompano still a little early for this species.

Off shore it has only been two days that we have been able to get out and it has been Black Fins at the 300’ mark eating small feathers, small cedar plugs and small rubber squid lures. One had to run to that depth to find the blue water. Lots of color lines, flotsam and I am more than sure temp lines to explore take some mullet with you and go catch a fish. Next week will have anglers out there and we will have a report. I would play those color lines, plenty of fish on both sides…………………………………Henry
